AC Resonant System for In Situ tests of
extruded high voltage cables

This system allows tests on extruded cables in accordance with IEC 60840 and 62067 after they have been installed. These standards specify a test with AC voltage only in a frequency range f min = 20 Hz up to f max = 300 Hz, not allowing DC or VLF tests.

The test system and the test object form a series resonant circuit which, for physical reasons, guarantees a purely sinusoidal waveform of the test voltage.

In the event of cable failure, only minimal damage would occur as the amount of energy accumulated in the test circuit is limited.

The frequency operating range determines the wide load range for testing very short cables to cables with several kilometers in length.
